Merits Making opportunity - Dhamma Brothers & Sisters We need YOU!

Dear Brothers & Sisters in the Dhamma,

Sukhihotu.

There will be 6 forest monks from Thailand who will be visiting our centre from  22 - 23 May 2013

Volunteers we need you for the following :-

1) TRANSPORTATION

22 May 2013
Time : 11.00 am
Pick Up from KLIA to Ti-Ratana Penchala
Requirement : 2 MPV

2) Serving Pana (afternoon tea)

Date : 22 May 2013
Time : 4 pm
Requirement : To prepare for the 6 sanghas

Serving tea, coffee, honey, fruit juices (fresh or packet fruit juices without pulp, fruit juices, tomato juice is allowed), dark chocolate (without milk/fruits/nuts), sorbet with no residue of pulps or particles, sunflower seeds, soft cheese (cheese stick, cheddar,Danish Camembert, brie etc ) and seaweed.
When offering fresh fruit juice it is important that it is well strained so that no pulp or fruit particles remain, for the fruit itself counts as food and so cannot be consumed in the afternoon. Some places in Thailand will strain the juice in a cloth filter seven times to make sure, but the main point is that the filter is fine enough.

"Juice drinks include the freshly squeezed juice of sugar cane, lotus root, all fruits except grain, all leaves except cooked vegetables, and all flowers except the [bassia latifolia] (Mahaavagga.VI.35.6). According to the Commentary, the juice must be strained, and may be warmed by sunlight but not heated over a fire."(BMC p.339)

Some communities will not accept fruit juice made from 'large fruits':

"In discussing the Great Standards, the Commentary says that grain is a "great fruit," and thus the juice of any one of nine large fruits — palmyra fruit, coconut, jack fruit, breadfruit, bottle gourd, white gourd, musk melon, water melon, and squash — would fall under the same class as the juice of grain... From this judgment, many Communities [in Thailand] infer that the juice of any large fruit, such as pineapple or grapefruit, would also be classed as a non-staple food [and therefore could not be consumed in the afternoon.]" (BMC p.339)

* If you wish to offer above items to the sanghas, please inform us by 8th May . All items must be prepared and served individual portion basis.

''WHAT BUDDHISTS BELIEVE'- PRESENTED BY BRO. ANANDA FONG

You are a Buddhist, so what do you know about Lord Buddha's teachings?

The Buddha's Teaching is the greatest heritage that man has received from the past. The Buddha's message of non-violence and peace, of love and compassion, of tolerance and understanding, of truth and wisdom, of respect and regard for all life, of freedom from selfishness, hatred and violence, delivered over two thousand five hundred years ago, stands good for today and will stand forever as the Truth. It is an eternal message.
We are in a world torn by strife. The Buddha taught that we must develop the 'Bodhi' heart of wisdom, a heart of love, a heart of understanding, to overcome the prevailing vices which have plagued man since the beginning of time. 'Overcome anger by non-anger, overcome hatred by love'. Are we practising the advice given by Him? We are responsible for our destiny. We have to cleanse our hearts, scrutinize our own natures and determine to practise the Teachings not only in the letter but, more importantly, in the spirit.

'What Buddhist Believe' is now expanded to it's 4th Edition.

Come and listen to Brother Ananda Fong present 'What Buddhist Believe'.
