MAHA SADHU TO ALL PARTICIPANTS OF LUANG PU TOHN'S ROBE OFFERING FOR THE DEPARTED.

Through your support, understanding and compassion, we collected an amount of RM 165,554 during the robe offering ceremony presided over by Luang Pu Tohn (Phra Ratchayan Wisutthisophon).
Devotees had the opportunity to transfer merits to the Departed. As mentioned, all proceeds from this ceremony will support the construction of Phra Maha Chedi (Grand Stupa) at Wat Sri Apaiyawan, Loei Province, Thailand.
The Stupa will enshrine the relics of Lord Buddha and Phra Arahants together with Luang Pu Tohn's relics and personal belongings for people to pay respect and venerate. We gained immeasurable merits during this auspicious event by meeting a great teacher; Luang Pu Tohn, contributing and supporting towards building fund of the Stupa and transferring merits to the departed.
We would like to express our gratitude to the guests Venerable Bhikkhus; namely Phra Ajahn Sarot Khongprayot, Ajahn Keng, Ajahn Tikkhayano,Ajahn Tong, Ajahn Pean, Bhikkhu Li together with their entourage of accompanying Bhikkhus. We would also like to extend a special 'THANK YOU' to Dr. Romdej Phisalaphong and family who initiated the invitation to Luang Pu Tohn as a gift to fellow Malaysian Buddhists. Also we would like to thank all donors, participants, volunteers, devotees, well wishers and Buddhist Societies who had so thoughtfully and generously contributed to the success of the Robe Offering Ceremony.

'Let This merit accrue to our departed loved ones, friends and relatives and may they be well and happy'.

Finally, for those who contributed and supported the building fund of the Stupa have truly earned mahapunya: great merit, huge merit, exceptional merit. This is the type of good kamma that people may only have the opportunity to earn once in a lifetime. With the attitude of devotion and the readiness to give up some of their own wealth, time, and energy without expecting anything in return, all of you have built the path to happiness.
The Buddha cautioned us not to underestimate the value of merit, for merit equals happiness, and the bliss of renunciation is one of the highest forms of happiness possible.
When people see this Stupa and are then motivated to make positive changes in their lives, to enter and progress along the path of the Dhamma,  then the benefits to the donors multiply.
The results of such good kamma can be expected to manifest as material prosperity, good health, fewer obstacles and a longer life.
However, these benefits are not worth a small fraction of the benefit that comes from making a strong and deep connection with the Dhamma; because this will conduce to inner peace, both in this life and long into the future. Through being part of the creation of stupa you have definitely made a strong connection with the Dhamma.

We wish you, and all of your family and  friends: peace, contentment

and innumerable blessings.  May you realise supreme security and

great happiness on the Path to Awakening.

As water showered on the hill,
flows down to reach the hollow vale,
so the merits transferred can serve,
the spirits of the departed kin.
As river-beds when full can bear

So the merits transferred can serve,

''WHAT BUDDHISTS BELIEVE'- PRESENTED BY BRO. ANANDA FONG

You are a Buddhist, so what do you know about Lord Buddha's teachings?

The Buddha's Teaching is the greatest heritage that man has received from the past. The Buddha's message of non-violence and peace, of love and compassion, of tolerance and understanding, of truth and wisdom, of respect and regard for all life, of freedom from selfishness, hatred and violence, delivered over two thousand five hundred years ago, stands good for today and will stand forever as the Truth. It is an eternal message.
We are in a world torn by strife. The Buddha taught that we must develop the 'Bodhi' heart of wisdom, a heart of love, a heart of understanding, to overcome the prevailing vices which have plagued man since the beginning of time. 'Overcome anger by non-anger, overcome hatred by love'. Are we practising the advice given by Him? We are responsible for our destiny. We have to cleanse our hearts, scrutinize our own natures and determine to practise the Teachings not only in the letter but, more importantly, in the spirit.

'What Buddhist Believe' is now expanded to it's 4th Edition.

Come and listen to Brother Ananda Fong present 'What Buddhist Believe'.

Ajahn Chah Remembrance Day (ACRD) – 17 & 18 December 2011 (FOR NON MUSLIM ONLY)

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Sukhihotu.

The Ajahn Chah Remembrance Day (ACRD)  is a special day devoted to one of the great contemporary Buddhist monks in Thailand, Venerable Ajahn Chah also known as Ajahn Chah Subhaddo. He established the first monastery in Thailand to be run by and for English-speaking monks, Wat Pah Nanachat ('International Forest Monastery') which Venerable Sumedho assisted in the setting up as the first abbot.  Venerable Ajahn Chah is especially revered for his contribution and dedication to the establishment of the practice of the Thai Forest Tradition in Buddhism outside of Thailand.

This year’s event, which is the third one to be held in Malaysia, is especially significant as it marks the 20th anniversary of this great monk’s passing The two-day event on the 17th & 18th of December 2011 , will be held at the SJK (C) Yuk Chai (Taman Megah) school hall.  Monks from the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Malaysia  will be attending this event.
“ When Ajahn Chah sent me to England to establish the first branch monastery there, I had a lot of anxiety. I told him about my doubts of surviving in England as an alms mendicant.

Ajahn Chah said, “You mean there are no kind people in England?”  I replied, “I am sure there are.” Then he said, “Go! Go there!”

He didn’t say “Buddhist”. He said “kind people”. And that struck me. I have a much more cynical attitude about the nature of humanity. My attitude is that we are basically selfish. Ajahn Chah’s attitude is that we are basically good. That felt to me like a better way of viewing humanity.

Now, when I reflect on my 33 years of living in England-- teaching meditation, establishing monasteries, ordaining and training monks and nuns there--and how much support we have received over the years, out of the good heartedness and generosity of people there, I feel a very deep sense of gratitude.”

~ Venerable Ajahn Sumedho, at the Ajahn Chah Rememberance Day, January 2010, Kuala Lumpur

Born on 17 June 1918 near Ubon Ratchathani, northeast Thailand, Ajahn Chah was instrumental in establishing the Thai Forest tradition in Buddhism in the West and was an influential teacher of the Buddhadharma.

He became a wandering ascetic after the death of his father, walking across Thailand while taking teachings at various monasteries. By also spending time in jungles infested with tigers and cobras, caves and cremation grounds, he developed a unique style of meditation by reflecting on death to comprehend the true meaning of life.

The Thai Forest tradition is one branch of the Theravada Buddhist tradition. Commonly practiced in Thailand, Burma and Sri Lanka, one of the distinguishing characteristics of the Theravada Buddhist tradition is its strict adherence to the original teachings and rule of monastic discipline laid down by the Buddha

The Forest tradition emphasizes very strongly on meditative practice and the realization of enlightenment as the focus of monastic life. A day in the life of a Forest monk involves constant practice of the Buddha’s path of contemplative insight, which includes living a life of discipline, renunciation and meditation. It is through this process that the Forest monks can understand the inner truth and peace as taught by the Buddha. The extensive 227 rules of conduct, or precepts, must be strictly adhered to, such as consuming food between dawn and noon; not handling money; practice of celibacy.  The Forest monks commonly engage in the practice of “thudong” which is wandering on foot in search of solitary places, sleeping wherever is available and eating only whatever is offered by laypeople along the way.

Laypeople wonder why Forest monks undergo such a strict and disciplined regime that entails living a life of absolute austerity. The Buddha believed that living in this manner allows Forest monks to simplify and refine the mind. Refinement allows them to explore and understand the fundamental causes of suffering within the human psyche and ultimately cultivate a path that leads toward freedom from suffering and supreme happiness.

The Ajahn Chah Remembrance Day seeks to provide the public with guidance by the visiting Monks on how this can possibly be achieved through the teachings of the Buddha and Ajahn Chah.  It is especially relevant since we live in a day in age where our lives are full of stress, pressure and fear of uncertainties.

Ajahn Chah once said:

“ The purpose of the practice, then, is to seek inwardly, searching and investigating until you reach the original mind. The original mind is also known as the pure mind.”
~  “The Path to Peace” by Ajahn Chah

Keep the  above dates free and  watch out for more details in our next email.

We look forward to your support and participation. Please bring your family and friends.

May the Blessings of the Triple Gem be with you and your family always.

Human Potential Development Talks - THE MIND–MATTER EXPERIENCE (For non muslim only)

Dear Brothers & Sisters

Sukhihotu. We invite you to the following talk by Bro Billy. Details as follows:-

TOPIC             :           THE MIND–MATTER EXPERIENCE
DATE              :           3rd SEPTEMBER 2011
TIME               :           7:30PM – 9:00PM
VENUE           :           Ti-Ratana Penchala Shrine Hall

OBJECTIVE

To help us realize that our memory and imagination, as well as the way our Mind interprets sensory inputs, distort the realities of our experiences; and to understand how we can better manage this from a Buddhist perspective, to help bring happiness and peace of mind into our lives.

SYNOPSIS

Can we really trust our senses? How does the memory of our fluid past and our imagination of an uncertain future affect our perception of realities?

In this talk, we will review psychological evidence how our mind is easily fooled by our senses, and how memory and imagination distort our perception of realities in life. In the process of experiencing by the organism in an environment, seen from a Buddhist perspective, there is really no mind and there is no matter, there is only experience. It is our unconscious emotional reaction to our experiences that causes insecurity, uncertainty, and instability that lead to “Dukha”. We apply this learning together with the teachings of the Buddha to help bring us happiness and peace of mind.

Videoclips of research findings from the fields of Behavioural Psychology and Neuroscience help enhance this presentation.

Serene Mind Workshop was introduced to us by Dhammesi Teo, the event was sponsored by WAKI International & Metrowealth International. It was organised by the Ti-Ratana Penchala team, supported by Innovate Solutions Sdn Bhd and Lumbini Garden. The event was held at the Crystal Crown on the !7 Sept .

Review & testimonies  by Leni Mah and Sister Janice Teo on Serene Mind Workshop by Mae Chee Sansannee

To parents and parents-to-be

Yesterday I attended a "Serene Mind" workshop conducted by a Thai nun, Mae Chee Sansannee, also an ex-model, for pregnant ladies. She emphasised on the importance of transferance of good and positive energy and thoughts by both mother and father considering the fact that the womb is the world of the feotus and the mother's breath is it's breath. Also basing on the fact, from recorded scans of a feotus between 30 -38 weeks, showing that it could smile, yawn, stick it's tongue out and suck it's fingers.

She shared the following exercise & suggestions :

For pregnancy below 8 months: The mother holds the father's hands and guide his hands rubbing round the stomach in circular motion, with serene music / lyrics / chants, with the mind being present with the feeling of motion of the foetus within.

For pregnancy above 8 months: The mother holds the father's hands and guide his hands  in downward motion along the stomach, from it's legs to it's head which should be normally at the lower part of the womb at this stage againwith serene music / lyrics / chants, with the mind being present with the feeling of motion of the foetus within.

MIND
She also stressed the importance of the mother's mind to be continuously at ease, stressfree and without feeling of anger. Should there be feeling of any stress / anger, practice mindfulness, to be the witness / observer of your own feelings / thoughts and not to be the feeling / thoughts, would be good for the feotus.

GOODNESS
Mae Chee also encouraged parents to start a "piggy-bank" from the time of conception till the birth of the baby. When the baby is born, the amount collected in the piggy-bank to be donated to charity or a good cause. This is an act of goodness for the baby at the start of it's life in this world. A baby conceived is not the choice of the parents of it, but it's choice of it's parents. The baby belongs to the world and not to the parents hence the parents duty to assist the child in this birth of its lifetime.

Many parents-to-be visit Mae Chee in Thailand. If you wish for more info do visit this website
